Digitalization vs Digitization

What is Digitization :-

  • Converting data, documents and processes from analog to digital format is digitization.
  • It is the process of making data (information) available and accessible in a digital format.
  • It is the process of converting information from a physical format into a digital format.
  • It is the process through which any data is converted in the form of digital records, data, and information.
  • Scanning a paper photograph to create a digital file is digitization.
  • Converting a paper report to a digital file, such as a pdf is digitization.
  • Note that "the data itself is not changed" in digitization process, only it is simply encoded in a digital format.
  • "Digitization can increase efficiency benefits when the digitized data (information) is used to automate processes and enable better accessibility" - but digitization does not seek to improve the processes or data.

What is Digitalization :-

  • Digitalization moves beyond digitization.
  • Digitalization is a transformation - Transforming your business processes for digital (to become more efficient, productive, and profitable) is called digitalization.
  • Digitalization is “the use of digital technologies to change a business model and provide new revenue and value-producing opportunities, it is the process of moving to a digital business.
  • Digitalization empowers you to use the digital technologies and improve your business processes and make them faster, more efficient, and less prone to errors and wastages.
  • Digitalization of your business means going all digital from the start.
  • If an organization uses digitizing process to improve business, create revenue or simplify some operations, then it is called digitalization.
