An "organic" search engine listing is a free listing of a site that are not paid for, usually found by a search engine's robot and then ranked by relevancy according to the search engine's algorithims.it is also known as natural listings.

In contrast, a paid listing is ranked according to how much an advertiser is willing to spend. The field of search engine optimization (SEO) is geared toward improving the rankings of sites' organic listings.

What is a directory?

A directory is a website often categorized like the yellow pages which allows visitors to find other websites by topic and category. A directory is a website such as DMOZ (or the directory section of Yahoo) that does not have automated programs which crawl the web looking for web pages. Each website included in a directory was submitted by the site's representative.
